Odd Dessert Combos

Are you one of those people who puts peanut butter in your eggs, crumbles chips on top of your sandwich or just adds siracha to everything (sweet or savory)? If so, we're looking for you!

Here at Dessert Report, we are looking for some of the most unique dessert combinations that exist. We want to know your recipes, see your photos or otherwise just hear about your oddest favorite desserts! Just post them in the chat and include the hashtag #odddesserts. If we see something really interesting we will feature you here on the blog!

Cool Off with Icebox Desserts

Lemon ice box pie. Mmm. Just the sound of it makes the mouth water, right? Not only are they among the easiest desserts to create, but they are so cool and refreshing that it's almost like bringing a big pitcher of lemonade along with you. Sigh. Yum. If you have a summer picnic, barbecue or other outdoor activity where you need to bring a dessert, an ice box dessert is the way to go!

The Science Behind Baked Alaska

My family has been making its way through the book Maker Lab: 28 Super Cool Projects this month, and some of the experiments involve some of our favorite kinds of projects: kitchen science! Kitchen science is really fun because it almost always involves things you have on hand already and you often get to eat what you make while you learn about how it was possible in the first place. Cool!

Pudding Day

Did you miss out on National Chocolate Pudding Day on Monday? If not, you can still enjoy pudding anytime, whether you like instant pudding or you make your own homemade desserts!

It's really easy to make homemade pudding. All you need is sugar, cornstarch, cocoa, salt, milk, butter, and vanilla extract. This recipe from Hershey's also calls for some whipped cream if you'd like to add that to your dessert.

Peaches and Cream Day

Did you know that today is Peaches and Cream Day in the United States? It seems like every day has its own holiday, and today is the celebration of peaches and whipped cream. You might think that it should be later in the season, given that peach picking usually takes place in August, but today is as good of a day as any to enjoy a big bowl of fruit and cream. When it comes to fruity desserts, two things are key:

1. Keep it simple

2. Include a unique twist

Sex on the Beach Pops

Boozy popsicles are a great way to enjoy your favorite drink in frozen form, giving you a nice buzz while you cool off and enjoy a hot day! There are any number of recipes you can follow, but this one for Sex on the Beach pops is one of the best I've come across. Not only does it taste amazing, but the ingredients it calls for are quality, fresh and tasty. All you need are some raspberries and pineapple, some vodka and pomegranate liqueur.

Move Over, Unicorn Frapp

If you enjoy your dessert as a drinkable, coffee-themed or fruity creation, you may want to check out some of the off-menu items at Starbucks. The Unicorn frapp may be gone, but there are dozens of other Frappucino blends that you can create, customize and order as you please to make your own drinky dessert! The only catch is that you MUST know what ingredients and how many pumps of each you want since many baristas don't know the ingredients of every drink in the world. It's like going to the bar: you just have to know what's going into your drink.

Bacon Desserts

Yes, that is chocolate covered bacon. On a stick. Yes, it's delicious, as crazy as it sounds.

Have you ever had bacon for dessert? It sounds like such a ridiculous concept but more restaurants are catching on to this trend, offering up bacon goodies to eat everywhere you go. There's candied bacon, bacon ice cream, bacon parfait... Even Denny's features bacon desserts now and then!
