Arugula on your cake? At Gramercy Tavern, you can taste just this on pear cake with bleu cheese mousse. Is it really that surprising, given how so many ice cream parlors are coming up with odd veggie flavors? Chefs are creating new desserts from everything from corn and sweet potatoes (understandable) to squash and fennel. Many of these vegetables are already packed with sugar (ask a LCHP dieter when they last time they had corn was!) so it makes sense to include them, but what about the restaurants making treats out of artichokes, olives and celery?

What is it about camping that makes every bite taste better? I think a plain baloney sandwich is amazing when I'm camping! It's probably because we work so hard all day just to, you know, exist, so you're just hungrier. Camping desserts are even more scrumptious! Have you ever had Dutch oven peach cobbler? Oh my...
It's the place where your dessert dreams come true. West Town Bakery and Tap is the latest addition to Chicago's many delicious eats and it is one of the best places to satisfy your sweet tooth. Not only can you get treats that are vegan, gluten free, dairy free, nut free and soy free if you like but you also know your treats are locally and sustainably sourced. From gorgeous milkshakes to the pie of the day and beautiful cakes, there is always something to help with your cravings.
The other day, we stopped by a local bakery to get my mom a birthday cake she specifically wanted from that bakery. We've passed it a million times and never stopped. I don't know why; I guess it's just more convenient to grab something at Target for my daughter's co-op snack while we're already buying other things than make an additional stop.
Happy pie day! In honor of pie day, enjoy a slice of your favorite pie for dessert, whether you like fruity, sweet or even savory pie. Shepherd's pie for dessert? We wont judge.
If you want to make your own decadent pie, this cookie dough pie is perfect. It's so easy, too, and it calls for no real cookie dough--just Chips Ahoy cookies! You mix them with milk and whipped cream (after smashing them well, of course) and add some chocolate syrup, and voila--cookie dough pie.
I have a huge soft spot when it comes to Coldstone Creamery. Not only do they make incredible desserts, but they've given my homeschool group some really amazing tours. Our local owner is hilarious and I love how she discusses everything with the kids.
Could anyone else do with some pineapple, kiwi and berries? I know I could! Even if spring seems to be coming early, everything is still cold, wet and dreary. A bit of fruit salad could be just the thing to perk you up.
If you're like me, you might already be tired of cookie season! Girl Scouts are everywhere asking for you to buy cookies and who has the heart to say no? I always say yes if I can but wow can they get expensive AND sugary! At one Girl Scouts stand I saw they were actually selling with a restaurant where you can order shakes made with the cookies themselves! Can you believe it?
Peanut butter is one of my favorite flavors lately, so I was happy to see it included in this list of seven tasty treats that you can make with five ingredients or less. I just love Tasty's videos because they make everything look so simple, and when I try them out they usually are pretty easy to complete.
I know I've written about brownies before, but recently something I tried changed my entire perspective on brownies! My family and I ate dinner at Stacked St. Louis, which is our new favorite burger joint where you can get just about any kind of burger in the world. Normally we don't order a dessert but we were all feeling like something sweet, so we got the Bourbon Bacon Caramel Brownie and oh sweet heaven.
