No-Fuss, Low-Calorie Summer Desserts

No-Fuss, Low-Calorie Summer Desserts

Summertime may not require the constant vigilance on your diet the same way the holiday season does, but it’s still important to keep a healthy, balanced diet year-round. Besides, the worst time to not fit in your swimsuit is during swimsuit season! Here are some delicious, simple and healthy snacks to keep you both satisfied and fit during the summer months.

Get fruity. Fruit is just about everywhere during the summer, so enjoy it in all its fresh, juicy glory!

  • Slice up some strawberries and sprinkle them with stevia
  • Top a slice of angel food cake with strawberries, fresh fruit preserves or your favorite fruit and a dollop of fat-free whipped cream
  • Freeze your favorite fruit, then mash it up as an instant sorbet for hot days
  • Instead of the traditional “liquor melon,” stick a watermelon in the fridge overnight, then poke a hole in it and fill it with sparkling flavored water, Fresca, or your favorite light diet beverage for a yummy, low-calorie treat
  • Pour your favorite flavored water into ice cube trays, freeze them, and crush them up into an icy treat
  • Blend your favorite fruits with some yogurt or soy milk and a dash of honey for a nutrient-packed, low-fat smoothie

Satisfy your sweet tooth. If you are really craving a sweet treat but don’t want to overindulge, try these fixes:

  • Chocolate 100-calorie granola treats
  • Kudos bars
  • Mix up a chocolate, no-sugar-added carnation instant breakfast with some frozen yogurt
  • Mix up the same with some almond milk for a tasty low-calorie “shake” or smoothie
  • Mix up a packet of diet hot chocolate and serve it over ice

If you’re on the go and need something quick, try one of these:

  • Packaged low-calorie Jell-o or Jell-o pudding treats
  • A bag of frozen berries from the frozen foods section
  • Individual fruit or applesauce cans or cups
  • Three ounces of frozen yogurt from your favorite yogurt shop for a 100-calorie treat (if they don’t have a size that small, half your order with a friend)
  • Some ready-to-eat fruit from the market, like cherries, raspberries, a banana or grapes
  • 10 almonds, which make a nutritious, 100-calorie snack
  • A wedge of laughing cow cheese
  • Gerber baby food puffs (they’re super low-calorie, filled with vitamins and delicious!)
  • 3 cups of air-popped popcorn
  • A box of raisins
  • Squeezable yogurt
  • String cheese
  • Flavored rice cakes
