Review of Domino's Chocolate Lava Crunch Cake

The other night, neither my husband nor I wanted to cook anything for dinner. Instead, we did what any other true American family would do and ordered pizza. I chose to place the order online through my local Domino's Pizza - I'll do anything to actually avoid talking to someone on the phone. The online system is pretty smart, too. As I tried to check out, the system attempted to upsell my order by asking if I wanted to add an order of Chocolate Lava Crunch Cakes for only $2.99.

Of course, I could not say no to a chocolate dessert to accompany my pizza, and I quickly clicked to accept. I've tasted several pizza franchise desserts in the past, so I was not really expecting anything great. Kellogg's Krave Chocolate

"Part of a nutritious breakfast" in the way that anything is, if you eat it with a nutritious breakfast.

My first reaction, on trying a few nuggest of Kellogg's new Krave Chocolate cereal, was "I'm not sure if this cereal makes me proud to be an American, or embarrassed."

If you have ever contemplated tossing a handful of chocolate chips into a bowl of Cap'n Crisp, then you have the core concept of Krave down pat. It's basically a chocolate chip stuffed into each little pillow of Cap'n Crisp, coupled with a notable improvement in texture. The outside of each pillow is gently fibrous, like a smoothed out Triscuit.

So much better than I expected!

As you may have heard, some Target stores have opened grocery sections, in a bid to compete with Walmart. I'm not sure why anyone would want to go head-to-head against Walmart. Particularly since Target has always carved out its niche of having fun fresh designs (which is the reason I found myself there in the first place - I wanted a new set of bedsheets, and none of the designs at Walmart were anything but boring and bland and fusty).

The nearest Target converted to a partial grocery store about six months ago, but I guess they're still working out some of the details. They had to carve out an entire quadrant of the store, which caused a huge rearranging. And what with the laws of space time being what they are, it meant squashing the rest of the store by 25%.

Now that January is almost gone, I'm noticing that the extra pounds I put on over the holidays are sticking with me. Like most of the world, I resolved to lose some weight this year, but I have not yet started my diet. I hate that word - diet. Look at it carefully: DIEt. Yep, diets are too close to death for me. Instead of being on a diet, I'm going to make smarter choices in my eating habits. Being a dessert lover, however, I've been searching for healthier options.

While venturing through the grocery store, I picked up a bag of fresh fruits. After all, they are supposed to be a natural dessert, but I cannot seem to tame my sweet tooth with a peach. A squidgy American dessert classic

As with my recent dip into Twinkies, I had not eaten a Hostess Sno Ball in decades. But the news that Hostess has declared bankruptcy convinced me to try one.

Would it be the last Sno Ball I would ever eat? Unlikely; I am convinced that the Hostess name is a valuable enough property that some other company will snap it up and keep churning out the delicious treats. But hey, you never know, right? And if Zombieland taught us anything, it's that you should cherish your desserts while they are easily accessible.

5 Desserts to Make With Ice Cream

Sure, it’s winter. Sure, it’s cold out. Ice cream desserts are great any time of year, though. You do not have to neglect your favorites just because the temperature dips below 30 degrees. That, plus I am craving ice cream this week. Magic Shell rules in my house, just like it did in the 80’s. For a more sophisticated approach, here are a few of my favorite ways to throw together an ice cream dessert.

1. Loaf of Yum: Line a loaf pan with plastic wrap while softening ice cream on your kitchen counter. Fill loaf pan approximately ¼ full with ice cream and re-freeze. Repeat with 3 more flavors, re-freezing after each. When you are ready to serve, simply turn out onto a platter and remove the wrap.
