I'm a big fan of wafer cookies.  I recently bought and ate an entire packet of wafer cookies ON PURPOSE.  I like the lightness and the crunch of the wafer.  So I was moderately interested when I purchased these three "crisped" versions of some standard candy bars.

All three bars have a few things in common.  Each one is actually two mini candy bars in one wrapper.  I guess that probably makes it easier for them at the factory, since they don't have to make "regular size" and "fun size," just the one size packaged differently.  

And maybe it's pitched at dieters, since each individual bar is about 100 calories.  (But if you have the kind of self control that lets you eat one of the mini bars and set the other one aside, I doubt you need to worry about counting calories in the first place.)

The other thing they have in common is that Nestle "chocolate."  Which frankly is a waxy, overly-sweet abomination.  The kind of thing that rightfully should be called "chocolatey" instead.

Butterfinger Crisp
This was my favorite of the three.  My primary objection to Butterfinger bars is that there's just too much of the filling.  The flavor is overwhelming, the saltiness always has me reaching for my water bottle, and the way it gets compacted into your molars is fairly revolting.

The Butterfinger Crisp form corrects all of these problems by reducing the filling to three thin layers in between the cookie wafers.  It's all the kick of the Butterfinger, with none of the overwhelming aspects.  A+++ WOULD NOM AGAIN.

Nestle Crunch Crisp
Nestle Crunch bars have gone through a remarkable collection of iterations over the years.  I remember when they came out with a white chocolate version in the mid 1980s and it BLEW. OUR. MINDS.

This is the bar that's changed the least for the Crisp form.  Honestly aside from the shape, I'm not terribly sure I would be able to tell the difference between a regular one and a Crisp one, in a blind taste test.  

I liked the chocolate crème filling of this bar the best.  It had the most cocoa-y taste, nicely rich.  It helped balance out that terrible "chocolate" coating.

Baby Ruth Crisp
I think I'm one of the few Baby Ruth fans in the world.  I can't tell you how many vending machines I've seen emptied of everything but Baby Ruths.  Which is a pity, because I think they deserve more respect.  It's everything you want in a candy bar: chocolate, peanut, and caramel.  What's not to like?

I didn't care for the Crisp version of this.  The chewy texture is one of the things I like about the Baby Ruth bar.  Gives it substance, you know?  The Crisp version is like a Baby Ruth but all foamy and light.  It just struck me as wrong.

The taste of this one is solidly faithful to the original, though.  I'll give them that.
