I actually have no idea what to call this.  Where a Cups wrapper says "Peanut Butter Cups," this bar has a blue swoosh that says "FILLED WITH REESE'S PEANUT BUTTER."  I can hardly call this a "Reese's Filled With Reese's Peanut Butter," as hilarious as that name may be.  In fact, nowhere on either the package or on the official website does it have any mention of what this thing actually is.  Despite the fact that any rational person would call it a "Reese's Bar."

So I'll just stick with "Reese's Bar," even though that's not technically its name.

I am absolutely bonkers for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.  They rank high on the list of "things I am not allowed to buy in more than a single serving."  As many mini peanut butter cups as I buy, that is how many I eat before the day is through.  I have cleaned out entire bags of Halloween Fun Size, left only with a lingering tummy ache and a shameful pile of wasteful plastic wrapper trash.

I have long maintained that Reese's has perfected the formula for peanut butter filling.  It's salty, and sweet, and just a little bit gritty.  It's creamy, without being unctuous.  If you have ever tried spreading regular peanut butter on a chocolate bar (let's not pretend otherwise) you will have learned that pairing peanut butter with chocolate isn't as easy as it seems.  Reese's filling is definitely peanut flavored, but it doesn't overwhelm the chocolate.  It is, in short, perfect.

At the same time, it's important to maintain the proper ratio between peanut butter and chocolate.  This ratio is in perfect balance with the regular-size cups.  The mini cups tend to be a little higher on the chocolate side of the equation.  The Easter eggs are heavier on the peanut butter side.  

The bar is definitely weighted toward the chocolate side.  Each cell of the bar has about the same ratio as the mini cups.  I spent a lot of time pondering this question.  I would actually need to scrape out the chocolate in this, and in a mini cup, and weigh them in order to be sure.  But my gut impression is that these are basically the same as a series of smashed mini cups, welded together with chocolate.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

In fact, the only "problem" is that this is a big damn bar.  It clocks in at 4.25 ounces, which is nearly equivalent to three packages of regular-size cups.  If you want to get technical about it, each bar weighs the equivalent of 4 8/10ths regular-size cups.   

Frankly, this is a lot more than I need to eat at one sitting.  But since that is what is in the package, that is what I ate.  It left me thirsty, and a little bit queasy, and more than a little but ashamed.  But that's my fault, not the candy's.  I embrace the blame on that one.
