Now this is one holiday that makes sense this month!

Mmm… caramel. There aren’t many people who don’t like it, and for those who don’t, I always have to wonder at your mentality. Are you crazy? Did you have a bad caramel accident in your past that traumatized you? I honestly can’t see why anyone wouldn’t be in love with the gooey, delicious stuff. It’s only second to wildly scrumptious gummy bears and such in my book.

If you’re a fellow caramel lover, boy are you (we) in luck this month. With so many treats on the market and caramel for treat-making available basically everywhere, the only problem we’ve got is choosing which delight we want. We really have endless possibilities…

• Eat caramel drizzled over ice cream, pie, cake… is your mouth watering yet? Try making your own syrup for something new.
• Have some caramel apples, a delectable treat my dad introduced me to at an early age—try making them homemade and topping them with candy, coconut, dried fruit, nuts, chocolate, sprinkles or whatever you like.
• Make these adorable mini caramel apples. This is something we’re going to have to do—just look at how cute they are!
• Try making your own caramel from scratch and see how you like it.
• Have a caramel latte instead of your usual chai or vanilla.
• Anyone want to try some caramel yogurt for breakfast? I can’t think of a sweeter start to the day.
• Order some flan the next time you go out for Mexican cuisine—or make some at home.
• Get your hands on some Rollos, Sugar Daddies, or other caramel candies—or try making your own peanut caramel chocolate cups, caramel popcorn, coffee caramels, or any of these other delicious recipes.
• Bake something insanely gooey, like a caramel cake, caramel cheesecake, or caramel rolls.
• Get fruity with caramel banana roll-ups (this is one I have to make for my daughter, who is a banana-head; as I was forced to eat bananas with medicinal pills hidden in them as a kid, I can opt out…).

Of course, you could always just practice pronouncing the word this month. I tend to say “car-mull,” much to the aggravation of my friends who say “care-uh-mel.”(Hey, at least I’m not one of those Midwesterners who pronounce sink “zinc.”) How do you say it?
